Double-Wide Justice: The Story of Joey Bodeen

Sometimes the hero you need, isn’t the one you get.

Joey Bodeen used to be called the Freight Train.

Back when he had a promising football career: before the hit, before the traumatic brain injury, before diabetes, before taking a knee on life.

Now he solves cases in and near the Whispering Pines Trailer Court in Pecos, Texas. The mix of health issues gives him an odd view of the cases, along with the wisdom of a cosmic one-eyed raccoon named Bob.

Joey’s latest theory: Victoria Henderson, the mayor’s wife, is running an illegal dogfighting ring. He has weeks of surveillance, evidence, and a presentation ready for Sheriff Hawkins.

He is
spectacularly wrong.

But after Joey apologizes and Mrs. Henderson puts him to work at her pit bull rescue, something in the surrender paperwork doesn’t add up — burner phone numbers, abandoned addresses, dogs with histories that don’t quite fit. Joey’s broken brain connects the dots.

This time, he might be right.

The Mayor’s Wife’s Dog Fighting Ring is a big-hearted, sun-baked dark comedy noir about finding yourself, a possibly rabid raccoon that helps you see the world, and a dog that changed everything.
